Meet the Leadership Team
Principal
Mrs. Yasmine D. Julien
Mrs. Julien is an instructional leader, mathematics content specialist, and experienced classroom teacher who began her educational career in Worcester, Massachusetts. During her formative years as an educator, Mrs. Julien worked diligently to meet and exceed State demands on the MCAS Mathematics exam in the city of Worcester. She later transitioned to the DMV area where she taught high school math and led her math team to demonstrate significant growth in the area of high stakes exams. Furthermore, Mrs. Julien has taught college level math courses at the Community College of Baltimore County, as well as Towson University.
Over the years, Mrs. Julien has held various roles in leadership including, Assistant Principal, Instructional Coach, and Dean of Students. These roles have played a critical role in improving teacher practice, as well as student achievement. Mrs Julien holds a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree in Mathematics, a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree with a concentration in Education, and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Sociology. She also possesses a K-12 Administrative License with the Office of the State of Superintendent in Washington, DC.
Mrs. Julien is filled with enthusiasm, readiness, and gratitude as she embarks on her second year as principal of Takoma Academy.
Vice Principal
Keith Beckett
Mr. Beckett has had the pleasure of serving Takoma Academy as Vice Principal, and most recently during school year 21-22, as Interim Principal. He is currently in his 23rd year of education. He has a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree in School Administration, and a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Social Work. He also holds an Administrative 1 Certificate from the state of Maryland.
Prior to becoming Vice Principal, Mr. Beckett served as a Dean of Students and Athletic Director. He is a trained and experienced teacher who has taught both history and physical education to elementary and high school students.
Mr. Beckett is passionate about education and is determined to provide a supportive school climate that is conducive to learning. He is looking forward to engaging with all stakeholders next school year in order to cultivate a culture of inclusivity and belonging.
Academic Support Specialist
Mrs. Shemika Campbell
Mrs. Campbell has been in the field of education for over 17 years. Prior to Takoma Academy, she worked as a classroom teacher at Brooklyn SDA School in New York, then as principal at Jessie R. Wagner SDA Elementary School in Pennsylvania. Mrs. Campbell holds a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree in Special Education and a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Education.
Mrs. Campbell has the unique ability to inspire and encourage young people to progress beyond their many challenges and accept excellence and wholeness in their lives. Mrs. Campbell believes that each child can learn and has the potential to fulfill their God given talent. She sees each of her assignments as a privilege and a mission to build her students for the Kingdom of God.
In her spare time, Mrs. Campbell enjoys reading and spending time with her family. She loves reaching out to young people and praying with them. It is her goal at TA to motivate and challenge students to be lifelong learners; most importantly showing students the love of Christ.
Her favorite bible Text is: “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:14
Business Manager
Mrs. RaShawna Young
Mrs. Young joined Takoma Academy as the Business Manager in 2012. She believes responsible funding and organization are essential to providing quality Christian education. Her journey began in Business Management in the District of Columbia Public School system, where she served several secondary educational schools for 12 years. Mrs. Young holds a B.S. in Business Administration. She is also a participant in the Columbia Union Mentorship Program, which seeks to develop and promote advancement in financial leadership within the church.
What drives Mrs. Young is her passion and emotional commitment to her alma mater, Takoma Academy. As a Takoma Academy student, Mrs. Young began developing her leadership skills. For this reason, she has committed to creating her family legacy at TA and is a proud parent of a current alumna and a future alumna. She desires to make the Takoma Academy experience accessible, obtainable, and sustainable for today's students and the students of tomorrow. Her mantra is "excellence is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, skillful execution, and the vision to see obstacles as opportunities."
Data Specialist & Registrar
Mrs. Kelli Collins
In October 2013, Mrs. Collins was brought on initially as the school’s Data Specialist to maintain student and staff records, and to disseminate important information through the school’s newsletters with our stakeholders. Currently, her duties also include various projects that support the Principal, such as supporting new families through the enrollment process. In addition to these responsibilities, Mrs. Collins manages the international student certification process with SEVIS (ICE) which enables TA to enroll international students. She is also the School’s Registrar.
Mrs. Collins has had the privilege of working closely with juniors and seniors as a College Prep instructor and English IV teacher. She has obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in English and is working towards a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. She is a published author who enjoys writing and singing. She is a former TA mom who has had two of her children graduate from Tacoma Academy: Zoie (Class of 2018) and J. Solomon (Class of 2020).
