Our History
Founded in 1904 as part of the Washington Training Institute, now Washington Adventist University, Takoma Academy has more than a century of history in Seventh-day Adventist Christian education. In 1932, TA became a separate institution of the Potomac Conference of Seventh-day Adventists and moved to its current Carroll Avenue campus in 1952.
Today, Takoma Academy is a college-preparatory, co-educational high school serving students in a Christ-centered learning environment. Our campus includes spacious classrooms, STEM laboratories, a chapel, one of Maryland’s largest high school gymnasiums, music and dining spaces, an outdoor multipurpose field, and a 400-meter track—supporting students as they learn, worship, create, compete, and grow.

Since 1904, Takoma Academy has been blessed with a rich legacy of Christian education, academic excellence, and faithful service. Together, we will honor the past while continuing to innovate and prepare our students for their unique and bright paths ahead.

Contact Information
The Takoma Academy School Board is authorized by the Potomac Conference Executive Committee to provide governance and oversight for the school in accordance with policies established by the Columbia Union Conference Board of Education. The Takoma Academy School Board Chair is President Charles Tapp.
The School Board brings together Potomac Conference administrators, representatives from constituent churches, and Takoma Academy administrators, working collaboratively to support the mission, vision, and continued growth of Takoma Academy.
